This first photo of Mule deer was taken below Tom Young's house on County Road 1A on March 5, 2007.

Of note is the light colored deer, and also the throat markings of the deer just behind the light colored deer.

There's a few turkeys in the Cotopaxi area too......

Below, note that the light colored deer has similar markings to the mule deer, and it's tail is the same.  Just lighter in color.

Here is a website that tells about Mule deer markings:

Mule Deer Odocoileus hemionus

Then, on March 10, 2007, I took the following photographs of Whitetail deer.

These were on Steve & Nancy Oswald's property on the north side of Russ Maytag's place.

From what images I can find on the internet, these strange critters are Whitetail deer.

Apparently, both Whitetails and Mule deer can have a white marking on their throat..

It's something I've never paid any attention to before.  This is the first time I've seen these Whitetail deer like this in our area, after  having lived in this area for over 30 years.

At least I think that's what they are, lol.

Here's a site that explains why the throat markings on deer are sometimes missing:

Coats of many colors

Below, this one seems to have larger ears, and a gray neck.

The color markings on it's head are typical Whitetail.

Here is an website that talks about hybrid deer:

TAILS WITH A DARK SIDE

It appears there is not a large likelihood of the

Mule deer and Whitetail cross-breeding.
